L'Université populaire du canton de Genève est une association à but non lucratif indépendante et neutre sur les plans politique et confessionnel, créée en 1982, reconnue d'utilité publique.
Elle a pour but d'offrir un enseignement accessible à tous et de développer la solidarité entre personnes de cultures et de milieux différents à travers la formation de base.
Elle vise à promouvoir la formation des adultes et l'intégration des personnes non-francophones, notamment en organisant des cours et en proposant des activités culturelles.
Elle est membre de l'Association des Universités populaires de Suisse (AUPS), du C9-FBA et certifiée EDUQUA.
L'UPCGe c'est 141'975 heures x étudiant(-e)s par année, toutes branches confondues, assurées par 229 enseignant(-e)s bénévoles pour 3653 étudiant(-e)s (chiffres 2013).
