Préverenges is a municipality in the Swiss canton of Vaud, located in the district of Morges. It is a Suburb of the city of Lausanne.HistoryPréverenges is first mentioned in 1224 as Preverenges.GeographyPréverenges has an area, of 1.9km2. Of this area, 0.61km2 or 32.8% is used for agricultural purposes, while 0.1km2 or 5.4% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 1.12km2 or 60.2% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.01km2 or 0.5% is either rivers or lakes.Of the built up area, industrial buildings made up 7.0% of the total area while housing and buildings made up 32.8% and transportation infrastructure made up 10.8%. Power and water infrastructure as well as other special developed areas made up 3.8% of the area while parks, green belts and sports fields made up 5.9%. Out of the forested land, 2.7% of the total land area is heavily forested and 2.7% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 25.8% is used for growing crops and 1.1% is pastures, while 5.9% is used for orchards or vine crops. All the water in the municipality is flowing water.The municipality was part of the Morges District until it was dissolved on 31 August 2006, and Préverenges became part of the new district of Morges.The municipality is located on Lake Geneva along the Lausanne-Geneva road.Coat of armsThe blazon of the municipal coat of arms is Azure, a Sail-ship affrontee with two Sails Argent.
