Oron-le-Châtel is a former municipality in the district of Lavaux-Oron in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. The municipalities of Bussigny-sur-Oron, Châtillens, Chesalles-sur-Oron, Ecoteaux, Oron-la-Ville, Oron-le-Châtel, Palézieux, Les Tavernes, Les Thioleyres and Vuibroye merged on 1 January 2012 into the new municipality of Oron.HistoryOron-le-Châtel is first mentioned in 1137 as Oruns.GeographyOron-le-Châtel had an area, of 1.3km2. Of this area, 0.68km2 or 54.0% is used for agricultural purposes, while 0.38km2 or 30.2% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.18km2 or 14.3% is settled (buildings or roads) and 0.01km2 or 0.8% is unproductive land.Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 9.5% and transportation infrastructure made up 4.8%. Out of the forested land, all of the forested land area is covered with heavy forests. Of the agricultural land, 35.7% is used for growing crops and 17.5% is pastures.The municipality was part of the Oron District until it was dissolved on 31 August 2006, and Oron-le-Châtel became part of the new district of Lavaux-Oron.
