Yens is a municipality in the Swiss canton of Vaud, located in the district of Morges.GeographyYens has an area, of 9.5km2. Of this area, 5.18km2 or 54.5% is used for agricultural purposes, while 3.66km2 or 38.5% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.7km2 or 7.4% is settled (buildings or roads) and 0.02km2 or 0.2% is unproductive land.Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 4.1% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.4%. Out of the forested land, 36.6% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.9% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 39.5% is used for growing crops and 6.9% is pastures, while 8.0% is used for orchards or vine crops.The municipality was part of the Morges District until it was dissolved on 31 August 2006, and Yens became part of the new district of Morges.Coat of armsThe blazon of the municipal coat of arms is Gules, a Chevron enchansed Argent, Chief of the same.DemographicsYens has a population of., 16.8% of the population are resident foreign nationals.
