Welcome to the official page for para-rowing at the World Rowing Federation, FISA, global governing body of the sport of Paralympic rowing.
This page will provide you with information specifically about para-rowing.
Para-rowing is rowing or sculling for rowers with a disability. Rowers aiming to compete at para-competitions, such as the Paralympic Games, must meet the criteria set out in the Para-rowing classification regulations. 'Para', recently changed from adaptive, implies that the sport is parallel to Olympic rowing.
Para-rowing is open to male and female rowers and there are five boat classes.
LTAMi4+ - Legs, trunk, arms mixed coxed four
LTAMix2x - Legs, trunk and arms mixed double sculls
TAMi2x - Trunk and arms mixed double sculle
ASW1x - Women's single, arms and shoulders only
ASM1x - Men's single, arms and shoulders only
Races are held over 1000 metres for all events. The first Paralympic Games Regatta was held in Beijing, 2008. The first World 'Adaptive' Rowing Championships were held in 2002.
