Vaulion is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.HistoryVaulion is first mentioned in 1097 as Vallis Leonis. In 1160 it was mentioned as Valleuni and in 1316 as Vaulion.GeographyVaulion has an area, of 13.2km2. Of this area, 6.36km2 or 48.3% is used for agricultural purposes, while 6.39km2 or 48.5% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.42km2 or 3.2% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.03km2 or 0.2% is either rivers or lakes and 0.02km2 or 0.2% is unproductive land.Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 1.4% and transportation infrastructure made up 1.6%. Out of the forested land, 44.3% of the total land area is heavily forested and 4.2% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 0.1% is used for growing crops and 27.4% is pastures and 20.6% is used for alpine pastures.
