Schönenwerd is a municipality in the district of Olten in the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland.HistorySchönenwerd is first mentioned in 778 as Werith.GeographySchönenwerd has an area, of 3.73km2. Of this area, 0.39km2 or 10.5% is used for agricultural purposes, while 1.61km2 or 43.2% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 1.55km2 or 41.6% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.18km2 or 4.8% is either rivers or lakes and 0.01km2 or 0.3% is unproductive land.Of the built up area, industrial buildings made up 4.8% of the total area while housing and buildings made up 20.6% and transportation infrastructure made up 9.7%. Power and water infrastructure as well as other special developed areas made up 2.1% of the area while parks, green belts and sports fields made up 4.3%. Out of the forested land, all of the forested land area is covered with heavy forests. Of the agricultural land, 4.6% is used for growing crops and 5.6% is pastures. Of the water in the municipality, 0.5% is in lakes and 4.3% is in rivers and streams.The municipality is located in the Olten district.
