Prahins is a former municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois of the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. The municipality of Prahins merged on 1 January 2012 into the municipality of Donneloye.HistoryPrahins is first mentioned in 1186 as Prehes.GeographyPrahins had an area, of 2.4km2. Of this area, 1.59km2 or 66.5% is used for agricultural purposes, while 0.63km2 or 26.4% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.14km2 or 5.9% is settled (buildings or roads).Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 2.1% and transportation infrastructure made up 3.3%. Out of the forested land, all of the forested land area is covered with heavy forests. Of the agricultural land, 52.7% is used for growing crops and 13.0% is pastures.The former municipality was part of the Yverdon District until it was dissolved on 31 August 2006, and Prahins became part of the new district of Jura-Nord Vaudois.The former municipality is located at the intersection of the Yverdon-Moudon and Morges-Payerne roads, on the right bank of the Mentue river.
