Otelfingen is a municipality in the district of Dielsdorf in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland.HistoryOtelfingen is first mentioned in 1044 as Otilingun though there is some debate about this identification. In 1079 it was mentioned as Notkerus de Otelfingen.GeographyOtelfingen has an area of 7.2km2. Of this area, 47.1% is used for agricultural purposes, while 37.1% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 14.8% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (1%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).The majority of the municipality is the village of Otelfingen, a Haufendorf (an irregular, unplanned and quite closely packed village, built around a central square) located in the Furttal on the border with the Canton of Aargau.DemographicsOtelfingen has a population of., 16.2% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 33.6%. Most of the population speaks German (91.7%), with Italian being second most common ( 3.0%) and French being third ( 1.1%).In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 41.9% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (15.9%), the FDP (12.6%) and the CSP (10.8%).
