Neyruz is a municipality in the district of Sarine in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland.HistoryNeyruz is first mentioned in 1137 as Nuerus. In 1138 it was mentioned as Nuruos. The municipality was formerly known by its German name Rauschenbach, however, that name is no longer used.GeographyNeyruz has an area, of 5.5km2. Of this area, 3.2km2 or 57.8% is used for agricultural purposes, while 1.44km2 or 26.0% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.85km2 or 15.3% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.04km2 or 0.7% is either rivers or lakes and 0.01km2 or 0.2% is unproductive land.Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 7.6% and transportation infrastructure made up 5.6%. Out of the forested land, all of the forested land area is covered with heavy forests. Of the agricultural land, 40.8% is used for growing crops and 16.1% is pastures. Migration accounted for 26.9%, while births and deaths accounted for 8.7%.Most of the population speaks French (1,498 or 89.9%) as their first language, German is the second most common (113 or 6.8%) and Italian is the third (12 or 0.7%).
