A group of Swiss Robotics Institutes who work together to develop wearable, rescue and educational robots to improve our quality of life.
We are at the forefront of robotics research and develop robots that co-exist symbiotically with humans in order to enable them to help both individuals and society.
NCCR Robotics promotes three main strands of research:
1. Wearable robots: We work with neurologists and physicians to truly understand the human body and nervous system so that wearers can better work with their robots, e.g. by enabling prosthetic limbs to understand impulses from the brain; and we develop soft robots to make devices more practical.
2. Rescue robots: Using “swarms” inspired by insects along with new algorithms for control and AI, our robots work together to cover more ground and communicate with each other and human and canine teams to find victims after natural disasters. Our robots are unique as we engineer them to be able to use more than one mode of locomotion - walking, flying, swimming and manipulation using arms.
3.Education: Development of an easy to use robotic system made out of paper and fitted with sensors and actuators to provide a cheap and effective tool for teaching in schools and universities. The robot will give students familiarity with the technology and therefore a greater understanding of both robotic and wider systems.
