While the Internet, revolutionary technologies, and the abundance of tablets, smart phones, and other viewing devices have been fragmenting audiences, comedy remains one the very few genres to pull in massive viewership across all platforms.
These past years have seen a growing number of broadcasters and cable channels build up their own line-up of trendy, provocative and innovative comedy programming.
In a galaxy of amateur-generated content and hilarious stand-up routines, finding the next comedy hit that will appeal to humor-hungry audiences is the number one job for development and programming executives, especially for those making inroads into original comedy content for the first time.
This is why, in the context of the next INTERNATIONAL MONTREUX COMEDY FESTIVAL (2-6 December) - Continental Europe’s most important annual rendezvous of humorists and up-and-coming comedy talent taking place on the shores of the Lake Geneva in Switzerland - a new initiative labeled THE MONTREUX COMEDY MARKET will showcase a selection of independently produced, comedy video concepts that could be taken to a whole new level and quickly turn into the next television sensation.
Six weeks prior to the Festival (Monday 17 October), a digital catalog profiling all the comedy video concepts to be presented at the market will be individually mailed to a carefully researched group of international television executives involved in the development and production of original comedy content.
The digital catalog will be formatted and laid out to provide a reading environment enriched by photo and video documents to be embedded into each concept presentation.
Following these mailing, individual meetings will then be set-up on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 December, between television executives who will be invited to express their interest in advance, and the independent producers representing the comedy concepts profiled in the digital catalog.
Ahead of the Festival, confirmed market participants will receive an agenda of 8 to 10 daily, pre-organized, 30-minute meetings.
