What is the MIL?

The Master's Programme in International Law (MIL) is an innovative degree course blending an education in international law with essential aspects of business and politics, with a strong practical emphasis.

Why this is important:

Ongoing globalization and internationalization have changed our world making it essential to develop a whole new way of looking at problems. In today’s world it is nowhere near enough to have excellent knowledge of the legal system of one country. A deep understanding of the connections between international law, business and politics and its application are required if you are looking for a career in this area.

Curriculum:

The MIL curriculum provides students with the legal skills, the management abilities, and the interdisciplinary understanding required for a professional career in the international corporate world, in government, diplomacy, international organizations, compliance and regulatory affairs, and other public and private sector institutions.

It helps you to improve four key aspects, which are:

- Legal skills
- Interdisciplinary competencies
- Integrative problem-solving skills
- The ability to practically implement ideas

In order to do so, the MIL is based on three mandatory subjects that you will have to face during your first semester:

- Legal Method and Theory in International Business Law
- International Negotiation
- The International Legal Order

Apart from that you can choose from a variety of courses, which are partly mandatory and, of course, you have to write a master’s thesis. For further information, please see the curriculum uploaded in the pictures section of the page.


Career Perspectives:

With the MIL you can work:

- in an international organization
- in a national or international NGO
- in an internationally oriented consulting firm
- in a national or international regulatory agency
- You may also pursue a diplomatic career, a PhD or an academic career

- With the MIL-MLaw double degree you are also qualified to work as an attorney in a law firm or as in-house counsel on international issues
