Geschichte

Medair's areas of core competency are emergency relief and rehabilitation.

Emergency relief: When a sudden crisis hits or a natural disaster strikes, Medair teams respond rapidly to help save lives and reduce suffering.

Rehabilitation: Once emergency relief needs are met, we work alongside vulnerable communities to sustain lives and help restore essential services and infrastructure.

We desire to relieve human suffering in times of crisis, disaster and conflict. We seek out people who are the most vulnerable, come alongside them and offer practical support through relief and rehabilitation initiatives.

We seek to bring hope to people devastated by crisis and caught in apparently hopeless situations. Together with the communities we serve, we strive to make sustainable improvements and increase their capacity to build a better future.

We are motivated to care for those who suffer because we follow Jesus Christ, who taught that our highest goal is to love God and to care for those in need. Our faith inspires us to give our best in all circumstances. By faith we pray for wisdom when facing difficult decisions, and for courage to live and work in demanding and often dangerous situations.

Providing and supporting primary health care services
Emergency responses to disease outbreaks

Vaccinating for routine coverage and outbreak response
Health and hygiene promotion

Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene
New water supplies: drilling boreholes, digging wells, installing hand-pumps, protecting springs,
harvesting rainwater, installing gravity-fed systems and tap-stands
Constructing household and institutional latrines
Hygiene promotion: protecting and drinking safe water, hand-washing, hygienic latrine use, and safe stool disposal
Training and capacity building of village hygiene promoters, water-user committees, and pump mechanics
Rehabilitating and maintaining existing water points and water treatment plants
Constructing elevated hand-pumps for disaster risk reduction in flood-prone areas
Emergency water trucking
Installing/operating emergency water treatment systems
Providing and promoting household water treatment
Community Approaches to Total Sanitation (CATS) programmes
Installing hand-washing and bathing facilities
Solid waste collection campaigns and solid waste disposal
Baseline surveys and rapid WASH assessments
Assessing and monitoring water quality and groundwater table levels

Shelter and Infrastructure
Distributing and constructing emergency and transitional shelter
Distributing essential non-food items (blankets, kitchen utensils, tools, etc.)
Constructing or rehabilitating permanent shelters
Constructing or rehabilitating schools, health clinics, roads, bridges, airstrips
Training in construction techniques such as resistance to earthquakes
Disaster risk reduction and mitigation, including flood prevention and cyclone shelter construction
Training and capacity building of communities and authorities in disaster risk reduction and preparedness Livelihood support including community income-generating projects, food security, food-for-work, and cash-for-work projects Baseline surveys and rapid shelter and infrastructure assessments
