Kleinlützel

Geschichte

Kleinlützel is a municipality in the district of Thierstein in the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland. It is an exclave of the Canton of Solothurn, enclaved in the Canton of Basel-Country and Alsace.HistoryKleinlützel is first mentioned in 1194 as Luozela. In 1207 it was mentioned as de Minori Luzela and in 1288 as Kleinen Lützel.GeographyKleinlützel has an area, of 16.29km2. Of this area, 5.86km2 or 36.0% is used for agricultural purposes, while 9.66km2 or 59.3% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.74km2 or 4.5% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.04km2 or 0.2% is either rivers or lakes and 0.02km2 or 0.1% is unproductive land.Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 3.0% and transportation infrastructure made up 1.4%. Out of the forested land, 56.7% of the total land area is heavily forested and 2.6% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 10.2% is used for growing crops and 24.7% is pastures. All the water in the municipality is flowing water.The municipality is located in the Thierstein district. It is an exclave of the Canton of Solothurn along the Lützeltalstrasse (Laufen-Pruntrut). It consists of the village of Kleinlützel and the hamlets of Ober- and Nieder-Huggerwald and Ring as well as the former nun's convent of Klösterli.Coat of armsThe blazon of the municipal coat of arms is Or a Fess wavy Azure and in chief a Mullet of Five Gules.
