Igis is a former municipality in the district of Landquart in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. Far more known than its proper name Igis is its hamlet Landquart, for its Rail Station and motorway exit. The municipalities of Igis and Mastrils merged on 1 January 2012 into the new municipality of Landquart.HistoryIgis is first mentioned about 840 as Ovinae/Aviuns. In 1149 it was mentioned as Auuine, in 1225 as Huiuns and in 1253 as Yges.GeographyIgis had an area, of 10.9km2. Of this area, 44.2% is used for agricultural purposes, while 30.4% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 20.4% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (4.9%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).The municipality is located in the Fünf Dörfer sub-district of the Landquart district. It is a transportation hub for the Rheintal-Prättigau region and is the third largest municipality (by population) in Graubünden. It consists of the village of Igis and the section of Landquart and (until 2004) Landquart Fabriken.DemographicsIgis had a population of., 15.6% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 3.8%. Most of the population speaks German (83.2%), with Serbo-Croatian being second most common ( 3.8%) and Italian being third ( 2.8%)., the gender distribution of the population was 49.4% male and 50.6% female. The age distribution, in Igis is; 849 children or 11.7% of the population are between 0 and 9 years old. 625 teenagers or 8.6% are 10 to 14, and 527 teenagers or 7.3% are 15 to 19. Of the adult population, 851 people or 11.8% of the population are between 20 and 29 years old. 1,168 people or 16.2% are 30 to 39, 1,186 people or 16.4% are 40 to 49, and 832 people or 11.5% are 50 to 59. The senior population distribution is 571 people or 7.9% of the population are between 60 and 69 years old, 407 people or 5.6% are 70 to 79, there are 189 people or 2.6% who are 80 to 89, and there are 23 people or 0.3% who are 90 to 99.
