The Global Human Rights Clinic aims to provide opportunities for students, recent graduates and new practitioners to gain practical experience in real human rights work, in particular with the UN human rights mechanisms. The Global Human Rights Clinic facilitates collaborative teams with cross-institutional participants, and helps build connections and networks between experienced human rights advocates, international lawyers, NGOs, UN experts and others, and students, researchers, and other learners. Through a model of experiential learning, the Clinic aims to open doors and expand opportunities for ‘up-and-coming’ human rights practitioners gain ‘hands on’ mentoring and practice in their chosen profession, while deepening and expanding the possibilities for experienced practitioners to contribute to the future of their profession.
The Global Human Rights Clinic works to:
- build on its pre-existing competencies and geographical placement to develop participants’ skills and experience in the UN human rights mechanisms;
- enhance the capacities of law schools (including those with or without existing international human rights programs) to teach and understand the role of the international human rights system in relation to domestic human rights advocacy and law reform; and
- collaborate with NGOs and other advocates to facilitate and expand their access to the international system.
The Global Human Rights Clinic is part of the Global Human Rights Group, a social enterprise also comprising of Global Human Rights Consultants LLC, a Geneva-based boutique consultancy firm. The Global Human Rights Group, the Global Human Rights Clinic, and Global Human Rights Consultants, were founded by Claire Mahon, who works with a team of experienced and up-and-coming human rights advocates.
