Gilly is a municipality in the district of Nyon in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.HistoryGilly is first mentioned in 1179 as de iusliaco. In 1278 it was mentioned as Gillie.GeographyGilly has an area, of 7.8km2. Of this area, 4.27km2 or 55.0% is used for agricultural purposes, while 2.69km2 or 34.7% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.75km2 or 9.7% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.01km2 or 0.1% is either rivers or lakes and 0.01km2 or 0.1% is unproductive land.Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 4.1% and transportation infrastructure made up 5.4%. Out of the forested land, 33.4% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.3% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 26.2% is used for growing crops and 5.7% is pastures, while 23.2% is used for orchards or vine crops.
