Frenkendorf is a municipality in the district of Liestal in the canton of Basel-Country in Switzerland.HistoryFrenkendorf is first mentioned in 1249 as Frenchendorf.GeographyFrenkendorf has an area, of 4.6km2. Of this area, 1.27km2 or 27.6% is used for agricultural purposes, while 1.93km2 or 42.0% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 1.39km2 or 30.2% is settled (buildings or roads) and 0.01km2 or 0.2% is unproductive land.Of the built up area, industrial buildings made up 4.3% of the total area while housing and buildings made up 18.7% and transportation infrastructure made up 6.1%. while parks, green belts and sports fields made up 1.1%. Out of the forested land, 40.7% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.3% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 10.2% is used for growing crops and 13.9% is pastures, while 3.5% is used for orchards or vine crops.The municipality is located in the Liestal district. The old village center is located on a terrace above the Ergolz valley.
