Festival Da Jazz St. Moritz - The unique Clubfestival
Näher dran gehts nicht.
From the legendary Dracula Club to lofty heights: the Festival da Jazz St. Moritz introduces another stage on 2450 metres above the sea.
Once more the Festival da Jazz St. Moritz can present an impressive line-up at the probably most intimate location of the international festival circuit: the legendary Dracula Club. This year, to make a contrast festival founder Christian Jott Jenny takes the music to the summit of Muottas Muragl, presenting the Grammy award-winning band Earth, Wind & Fire Experience in front of a breathtaking mountain scenery – and this for free. Numerous other concerts free of charge at the Miles Davies Lounge and the Dorfplatz complement this year’s top-class programme.
On July 11 2013 the Japanese cult band Osaka Monorail will start off the sixth Festival da Jazz. ‘Standing still or sticking to the status quo was never our thing. Therefore we have tried to further develop the programme and the organisation of the festival’, says Christian Jott Jenny.
Developing the programme further means focusing on finding a balance between new discoveries like the Spanish singer Andrea Motis and established international top acts like Nigel Kennedy or Chick Corea. If one name sticks out it’s probably Fazil Say: the Turkish pianist, who has recently made the headlines, will give his exclusive debut as an ingenious improviser. Furthermore, with the free open-air concert by Earth, Wind & Fire Experience the festival makes a clear statement for the Engadin, inviting local people to enjoy this real musical treat together with the international festival visitors.
The Festival da Jazz – a fixed date in the tour calendar of international stars
‘We are extremely pleased that artists like Matt Bianco, Dieter Meier or Dee Dee Bridgewater will return to the stage of the Dracula Club this year. It shows that the stars feel at home here and it encourages us to pursue our concept of having an intimate venue for just 150 visitors’, says a delighted Christian Jott Jenny. In the meantime, news about the festival’s quality has spread around the world. With Al Jarreau, Randy Crawford and David Sanborn three other internationally acclaimed musicians will make their festival debut in 2013.
‘Of course we’re proud that big names like this enjoy coming to St. Moritz. I believe that it’s partly due to the fact that these artists have a certain longing for authenticity, which they can find here’, says Jenny.

Festival da Jazz St. Moritz – unusual indeed.
July 11–August 11, 2013
Contrary to following ‘the bigger the better’ mantra the festival distinguishes itself by its small- scale approach. The main venue and the heart of the festival is the legendary Dracula Club, providing enough space for just 150 people. On the main stage (3,5 x 4,5m) international stars like Chick Corea, Randy Crawford, Matt Bianco and Nigel Kennedy will perform this year in an exclusive atmosphere. This year’s main new feature will be the open-air concert on St. Moritz’s famous backyard mountain Muottas Muragl where Earth, Wind & Fire Experience will play until the sunset. Half of the overall 50 concerts are free of charge. Additional stages at the Kulm Hotel’s ‘Miles Davis Lounge’ or the ‘Hauser-Stage’ will again see more traditional music. For the first time the winner of the SWISS JAZZ AWARD will perform on the last day of the festival on August 11. As far as the programme is concerned the Festival da Jazz St. Moritz embraces highest quality, regarding the size however, it wants to remain a boutique. Altogether, just 7500 visitors will be welcomed at the festival.
