Info Dal 1982, il Museo d'arte propone alternativamente esposizioni che incorporano opere dal 1600 ai giorni nostri, a rassegne su tematiche territoriali. Geschichte IL MUSEO Fondato nel 1982 negli spazi di un antico convento, il Museo d’arte di Mendrisio propone da oltre un trentennio esposizioni dedicate a grandi maestri del ‘900. Alterna a questa attività rassegne su temi e figure legati al territorio, approfondendo capitoli della storia locale e valorizzando artisti contemporanei. Istituto di riferimento per la regione, il Museo si concentra periodicamente in articolate mostre e pubblicazioni che riconsiderano l’arte e la storia del territorio. Durante le esposizioni temporanee organizza visite guidate e animazioni per le scuole, dando l’occasione ai più giovani di familiarizzare con gli spazi del Museo e di avvicinarsi attraverso attività didattiche alla storia e alle tecniche dell’arte. LA COLLEZIONE Grazie soprattutto a importanti donazioni, il Museo d’arte di Mendrisio può oggi contare su una notevole collezione che spazia dal XVI al XX secolo e che documenta capillarmente la storia artistica locale. Custodisce inoltre gli oltre 650 Trasparenti, luminose opere d’ornamento per le Processioni notturne della Settimana Santa ed eseguiti dalla fine del XVIII secolo fino ai giorni nostri. Patrimonio di straordinario valore, essi costituiscono una testimonianza unica, storica e religiosa della regione. IL COMPLESSO MONUMENTALE In un’incantevole cornice paesaggistica, l’antico convento dei Serviti, sede del Museo, è inserito per il suo valore storico-architettonico tra i monumenti di interesse nazionale. La chiesa di S. Giovanni, gioiello del XVIII secolo - di recente restaurata - e l’oratorio della Madonna delle Grazie, con la preziosa lunetta attribuita a Giovanni da Milano (metà del XIV secolo), arricchiscono l’intero complesso ruotante attorno al suggestivo chiostro con arcate (XVI–XVII secolo). "English Version" THE MUSEUM Established in 1982 in a former monastery, the Mendrisio Museum of Art offers exhibitions dedicated to the great 20th century masters, among those most appreciated both by critics and the general public. Acting as a reference institution for the region, the Museum regularly organises study exhibitions and produces publications regarding the region's art and history. During these temporary exhibitions the Museum organises animation programmes for nursery and primary schools, thus offering children the opportunity to visit the Museum and become familiar with art through didactic activities. THE COLLECTION Thanks especially to generous donations, the Mendrisio Museum of Art boasts a remarkable collection of paintings, sculptures and works on paper ranging from the 16th to the 20th century, which document local art history in detail. The Museum also has in his keeping over 650 Trasparenti (painted and illuminated panels of religious subjects) carried in the Easter Week processions from the end of the 18th century to present day. A legacy of extraordinary value, these constitute a unique historical and religious testimony of the region. THE MONASTERY BUILDINGS Set amidst enchanting countryside, the old Servite monastery houses the Museum and is included in the list of protected national monuments for its historical and architectural interest. The Church of San Giovanni, an 18th century treasure with its magnificent decoration and the Madonna delle Grazie Oratory, with its precious lunette attributed to Giovanni da Milano (mid 14th century), were built close to the atmospheric 16th-17th century arched cloister.
