Dorneck District is one of the ten districts of the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland, situated to the north of the canton. Together with Thierstein District, it forms the Amtei (electoral district) of Dorneck-Thierstein. It has a population of. Of this area, 32.99km2 or 44.2% is used for agricultural purposes, while 32.89km2 or 44.1% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 8.59km2 or 11.5% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.13km2 or 0.2% is either rivers or lakes and 0.04km2 or 0.1% is unproductive land.Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 7.1% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.9%. Out of the forested land, 41.7% of the total land area is heavily forested and 2.3% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 37.8% is used for growing crops, while 6.0% is used for orchards or vine crops.
