Of this area, 2.46km2 or 56.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 0.63km2 or 14.6% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 1.16km2 or 26.9% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.02km2 or 0.5% is either rivers or lakes.Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 19.0% and transportation infrastructure made up 6.0%. while parks, green belts and sports fields made up 1.4%. Out of the forested land, all of the forested land area is covered with heavy forests. Of the agricultural land, 48.4% is used for growing crops and 3.9% is pastures, while 4.6% is used for orchards or vine crops. Of the water in the municipality, 0.2% is in lakes and 0.2% is in rivers and streams.The municipality was part of the Nyon District until it was dissolved on 31 August 2006, and Crans-près-Céligny became part of the new district of Nyon.The municipality is located west of Nyon across Lake Geneva.
