Of this area, 2.43km2 or 55.5% is used for agricultural purposes, while 1.28km2 or 29.2% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.5km2 or 11.4% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.13km2 or 3.0% is either rivers or lakes and 0.07km2 or 1.6% is unproductive land.Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 7.1% and transportation infrastructure made up 3.2%. Out of the forested land, 23.5% of the total land area is heavily forested and 5.7% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 37.0% is used for growing crops and 12.3% is pastures, while 6.2% is used for orchards or vine crops. Of the water in the municipality, 1.1% is in lakes and 1.8% is in rivers and streams.The municipality is located in the center of the Swiss Champagne valley. It consists of the villages of Cartigny and La Petite Grave. The municipality of Cartigny consists of the sub-sections or villages of Nant des Crues, Moulin-de-Vert, Longemalle, La Petite-Grave and Bois-de-Saint-Victor.DemographicsCartigny has a population of., 22.7% of the population are resident foreign nationals.
