Burtigny is a municipality in the district of Nyon in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.HistoryBurtigny is first mentioned in 1144 as Britiniaco. In 1145 it was mentioned as Brettignei.GeographyBurtigny has an area, of 5.7km2. Of this area, 3.3km2 or 58.1% is used for agricultural purposes, while 1.93km2 or 34.0% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.34km2 or 6.0% is settled (buildings or roads) and 0.09km2 or 1.6% is unproductive land.Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 2.8% and transportation infrastructure made up 3.2%. Out of the forested land, 32.6% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.4% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 46.0% is used for growing crops and 12.0% is pastures.The municipality was part of the Rolle District until it was dissolved on 31 August 2006, and Burtigny became part of the new district of Nyon.The municipality is located at the foot of the Jura Mountains along the Col du Marchairuz road.
