Bever is a municipality in the Maloja Region in the Swiss canton of Graubünden.HistoryBever is first mentioned in 1139 as ad Bevero.GeographyBever has an area, of. Of this area, about 15.3% is used for agricultural purposes, while 15.1% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 1.2% is settled and 68.4% is unproductive land. Over the past two decades the amount of land that is settled has increased by 9ha and the agricultural land has decreased by 41ha.Until 2017 the municipality was located in the Oberengadin sub-district of the Maloja district, after 2017 it was part of the Maloja Region. It is located on the Inn River. It consists of the village of Bever and the hamlet of Spinas at the entrance to the Albula Tunnel. Until 1943 Bever was known as Bevers.DemographicsBever has a population of., 17.4% of the population are resident foreign nationals. Over the last 3 years (2010-2013) the population has changed at a rate of -4.09%. The birth rate in the municipality, in 2013, was 3.2 while the death rate was 7.9 per thousand residents., the gender distribution of the population was 51.5% male and 48.5% female., children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 14.8% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) are 68.6% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 16.6%.In 2013 there were 289 private households in Bever with an average household size of 2.17 persons. Of the 183 inhabited buildings in the municipality, in 2000, about 39.9% were single family homes and 37.2% were multiple family buildings. Additionally, about 32.8% of the buildings were built before 1919, while 19.1% were built between 1991 and 2000. In 2012 there was no new housing construction in the municipality. The vacancy rate for the municipality, was 0.32%.
