AdventistHelp is an emergency medical humanitarian initiative operating clinics for refugees and internally displaced persons in Iraq, Europe and Africa.
AdventistHelp is a medical humanitarian initiative established in 2015 in Europe in response to the mounting refugee crisis in the Middle East. It is a project of Adventist Laymen’s Services and Industries (ASI), a non profit organisation based in Bern, Switzerland.
AdventistHelp aims to deliver high quality medical care to vulnerable population groups in disaster areas and areas of need. We are a donor funded, volunteer run organization with a large pool of international medical professionals from all faiths, world views and walks of life volunteering with us.
Our first assignment was on the island of Lesbos from June to December 2015, running a well equipped field emergency unit at the busiest arrival point for refugees crossing the treacherous channel on overloaded boats from Turkey. We treated thousands of patients in our bus clinic on the beachfront in Skala Sykamineas. This was one of the our most challenging projects. From pulling drowning refugees out of capsized boats, to rescuscitating near drowned children on restaurant tables, with thousands of men, women and children arriving on our beachfront daily - this assignment changed us all.
In May 2016 we commenced our second assignment - the establishment of a primary and emergency clinic in Oinofyta Refugee Camp in Attica, Greece. This is a camp of around 700 Afghan refugees. Here we are still operational, providing quality medical care to this population group, in collaboration with the NGO DoYourPart, MDM and the Hellenic Air Force. We hope to commence a mobile dental service in the area shortly.
Our latest and biggest project that is being developed is an Emergency Field Hospital in the IDP camps east of Mosul, Northern Iraq. It will be operated in collaboration with ADRA, a well known global humanitarian relief agency already operational on the ground in Iraq. We are developing a fully equipped emergency unit for adults and children, as well as inpatient facilities for men, women and children. Thanks to the support of numerous donors, the project is rapidly gaining momentum, and construction is about to commence. Our location will be Hasansham U2 camp - right at the centre of a cluster of five camps of a total population of 70 000 people. Our emergency facility will be the only one of its nature in this zone east of Mosul, and will serve all five camps, as well as IDP families in the community.
The Seventh-day Adventist faith community is known for its international humanitarian work through organizations like ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency), and for its quality medical and educational facilities around the globe.
Thank you for supporting this project. Your involvement is as critical as ours.
