10 days of Freeride touring from Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean
Picture the French Alps: a huge expanse of mountains running from lake Geneva in Switzerland to the Mediterranean. And in between these two, no less than 300 ski resorts.
it makes you wonder… Could I link up resorts and ski the entire length from Switzerland to the mediterranean, and still make the most of skiing these massive infrastructures that are the european mega ski resorts.
A group of free-minded skiers will make the first attempt this winter between the 3rd and the 13th of February – integrating infrastructure with touring independence to ski village to village from Geneva to the Mediterranean – 460 km and 40,000 meters of vertical, all that for a measly 3500m of touring – in just 11 days while going through no less than 25 different ski resorts.
The adventure is being organized by Stewart Shepard – a sports & tourism sustainability expert, sports journalist, and passionate skier. Other members of the group include Franziska Heidenreich, Head of Carbon Management at MyClimate and ski mountaineering guide; Dr. Eric Berlow, a TED senior fellow, founder of Tru North Labs, and professional telemark ski instructor; Pierre-Henri Vernet, French ski instructor; and professional skier Francois-Olivier Kern, and last but not least, Dr. Tobias Luthe, a research professor in sustainability sciences at the University of Chur’s Tourism Institute and ski mountaineering guide..
The trip is sponsored by Grown Skis – the lowest carbon footprint ski on the market and ABS, the avalanche airbag company.
